Zond - Zond LP

I saw Zond play on my first adult trip to Melbourne. It was Sunday afternoon in a near empty room. Funnily enough Toby Baldwin was doing sound and was yelled at by the in-house engineer. I can’t remember what he’d done but it was the best set I’d seen in my short live music going life. Fast forward a few years to 2010, I’m about 5 releases deep running R.I.P. Society Records, and receive some rough mixes for a Zond Full length. I love it, but am concerned I won’t do it justice. A phone call convinces me I am capable (thanks Johanna and Dan). I still have trouble positioning this one, some ungovernable mix of Bailterspace, Godflesh and My Bloody Valentine??? Their bio says, "Zond are a maximum volume, minimalist soundrock group". I guess that works. I visited the US pressing plant where this record was manufactured a few years later and there was a sleeveless copy on the wall with "Zond is God" scrawled on it. I was extremely pleased to see someone else was as proud to have been a part of this album's process as I was. - Nic
